Pets
Las Cruces and the surrounding community are a great place to live for people and animals alike. There are a wide variety of services available to help you provide top-notch care for the animals in your life.

Dog owners should be sure to visit the off-leash Las Cruces Dog Park, 430 N. Hermosa St. behind the Meerscheidt Recreation Center, which is open daily from dawn until dusk. There is a section separate from the main park so dogs with “special needs” can still enjoy socializing.

If you and your canine companion would like to enjoy the city together, you can enjoy some of Mesilla’s finest Mexican food on the patio of pet-friendly Andele's Dog House, 1983 Calle Del Norte. Leashed dogs are also welcome at the Las Cruces Farmer's and Crafts Market, held each Wednesday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Las Cruces.

Pet lovers in the Las Cruces area have a wide array of services available to help them care for their animal companion. Below are several local businesses recommended by neighbors for providing exceptional care for their pets.

Pet Licenses
An owner of a dog or cat older than 3 months within the city must obtain a dog or cat license issued by the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley within 30 days of acquiring ownership, providing proof that a licensed veterinarian has properly vaccinated the dog or cat against rabies and that the animal has an implanted working identification microchip. Any dog, cat, domestic ferret, or other animal for which there is a state-approved rabies vaccine older than 3 months must have a rabies vaccination. Every animal bite must be immediately reported to Animal Control at 575-528-4100, or a state field health office.

Veterinarian
Calista Animal Hospital
The team at Calista Animal Hospital are a group of highly trained, experienced animal lovers who are devoted to giving their patients the best care possible. They believe in treating every patient as if they were their own pet, and giving them the same loving attention and care. Calista also offers short- and long-term boarding for pets on site.

Italian
Pastaggio's Italian Restaurant
Pastiaggo’s Meat and Green Chile Lasagna is still a top seller after 26 years. Owner Lorenzo added Green Chile to a pizza called the “Mesilla Valley Special” which is to this day also a top seller. Lorenzo did not stop there. He created a “Green Chile Alfredo Sauce” that many in the community are addicted to. The Green Chile Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken is definitely the most popular dish on the menu but Lorenzo believes the Red Chile Alfredo is equally as delicious. You will love their hearty salads, amazing pasta, and the bread … oh, the bread.

Lorenzo’s Italian Restaurant
The family-owned and operated business all started at the apron strings of Mama Gina. Vincent Vaccaro and his sister Mary Ostland, owners, remember dodging rows of drying pasta in their kitchen and baking endless rows of Italian cookies. Everything from cooked-to-order pastas, pizzas, and sandwiches, to homemade soups, seafood, and juicy steaks. And don’t forget about the famous homemade bread that will have you addicted in one bite.
