If you like a little history, education and local legend to go with your fun, then this would be your place! The cave was discovered in 1893 by a cowboy drilling for water, then a few years later in 1903, another owner started running the property as a tourist attraction. And the main attraction? That would be Wonder Cave, an ancient dry-formed cave (opened by an earthquake approximately 35 million years ago, not by erosion), producing the Balcones fault making the only commercially operated dry cave in the U.S., right here in our own backyard! The park includes an in-house wildlife park and train rides and is still currently owned by a local San Marcos family who has operated the park for three generations.
