Retail Therapy

Minot has no shortage of great places to indulge in some retail therapy! There’s enough room in this community for both big-box stores and local boutiques. We’ve got our bases covered with chain retailers like Target, Walmart, Menards, The Home Depot, and TJ Maxx. Additionally, we can boast about loads of unique, specialized local shops. While you can “shop local” across the entire city, most small business retailers are concentrated on Main Street downtown or inside Dakota Square Mall.

Here are a few shops that locals just can't get enough of:

Vintage City is a collector’s wonderland. This family-run business sells vintage, antique, and repurposed items in every shape and size imaginable. Whether you’re looking for dishware or old board games, figurines or wall décor, they’ve got everything from every era. If you still can’t find your dream piece, note it in their wish book; they’ll contact you if they come across what you’re looking for!

Gourmet Chef downtown specializes in cooking equipment, kitchen gadgets, and flavored oils — but that’s just scratching the surface. They’ve got an entire wall of North Dakota-made food products, and there’s a functioning kitchen in the back — the perfect place to take a cooking class!

Main Street Books has something for everyone. This cozy bookstore is, of course, brimming with books, but it’s also got a neat selection of tote bags, socks, stickers, and kids’ toys, as well as an entire section dedicated to local authors. Visit Little Why Not House at the front of the store, a local enterprise focused on helping local kids write their stories and publish them as hardcover books!

Inspired Interiors downtown is your stop for that extra special piece of décor or furniture. Perhaps you need new blinds or flooring for your home? You’ll definitely want to stop in and see what’s available at this eclectic interior design studio.

Mainstream Boutique in downtown Minot sells high-quality women’s fashion that “sing to your soul,” as well as unique beaded jewelry to complete any outfit. Make it an afternoon on Main Street and drop into Oliver’s Attic, a New York-inspired fashion boutique, then walk toward Artmain, which sells quality art supplies as well as handbags, clothing, and jewelry.

The Market on 4th in northwest Minot is a Do-It-Yourselfer’s dream. The Market is a collective of goods from local artists, offering everything from repurposed furniture, home décor, and locally made snack foods to vintage finds, jewelry, and live plants. If you’re lucky, you’ll be greeted at the door by the Market’s golden retriever mascot.

Lowe’s Garden Center is a haven for gardeners and plant-lovers. They offer an affordable selection of houseplants, exotic plants, and garden starter plants, with a bonus of knowledgeable service. Even during Christmastime, pine trees and poinsettias are available. Winter tip: The warm greenhouse is a great place to visit in the middle of January when you need a reminder that spring will come again!

Riddle’s Jewelry is our favorite jewelry store, stocked with men’s and women’s watches, diamond engagement and wedding rings, necklaces, earrings, and more. Plus, they have one of the city’s best goldsmiths in-house.

Scheels, inside Dakota Square Mall, is the ultimate destination for sporting goods. Whether you like to shoot hoops, hunt deer, or hike in wide-open spaces, Scheels has got every single piece of equipment you’d need for your athletic venture. They have a wide range of athletic clothing and jerseys, as well as an excellent supply of winter gear: heavy coats, warm boots, and the reliable SmartWool socks. Scheels will soon be getting a facelift to include even more great in-store experiences!

The Foundry, a quaint shop off south Broadway, overflows with trendy home décor, adorable gift options, and handmade creations from local makers. Grab a cup of coffee at the Foundry Coffee Company, tucked inside, and then wander and enjoy Minot’s own version of Magnolia Market. Sign up for a class to hone your skills at baking or crafting!

TJ Maxx and Home Goods, north of Dakota Square Mall, offer designer goods at discounted prices. Find clothing, home décor, footwear, kitchen accessories and more. It’s easy to redecorate your whole house at an affordable price.

Ulta Beauty, connected to the Dakota Square Mall, provides an endless supply of beauty and hair-care products. Grab all your makeup in one visit, or visit the in-store salon when your locks need a little love.

Like to go thrifting?
If you love the idea of repurposing secondhand items, Minot has a great thrift-store scene. Drop by the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch Thrift Store, a bright, well-organized shop whose proceeds benefit local kids. Insider tip: Lots of Target surplus ends up at the DBGR Thrift Store, meaning the dedicated bargain-hunter can often find brand-new pieces at low, low prices. Make a day of it by hitting Restore Thrift on Broadway (they offer monthly bag sales!), Goodwill on south Broadway, and 4R Home Thrift up on North Hill. Swing by The Closet Connection consignment store near the mall for like-new fashion!
