Native Texans learn at a young age in Texas history classes the significance of the bluebonnet being the state flower of Texas.
Former First Lady Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson (wife of former President Lyndon Baines Johnson) even had a passion for the native wildflower and made planting their seeds on Texas highways a special project of hers.
Bluebonnet season is a spring tradition in the Austin and Hill Country areas, and usually peaks in early April. It's technically illegal to pick bluebonnets, and you will want to pay it forward and allow others to enjoy the same breathtaking experiences you did.
Here's a handy guide to some of the best places in and around the Austin and Hill Country areas to bring your kids, dogs, and the entire family to view some colorful wildflowers, and take great photos to freeze-frame the moment!
