Meet the Lindstroms

A Local 'Look' from a Local Family

Our family moved to Morehead City from Stuttgart, Germany in the summer of 2018, so we are all too familiar with transitioning to a 'new home'!
Our favorite part about living on the Crystal Coast is living so close to the beach!
We live in Blair Farm in Morehead City and love it there! We also love living in a smaller, quiet town. We are used to lots of traffic and love the roads here! We especially love the local restaurants and storefronts in Morehead and Beaufort.  There are always neat events to attend and things to do.
Our favorite summer time activities include anything relaxing!  We love going to the beach and our local community pool. Fort Macon has some great trails for walking or running and such a pretty and usually empty beach.
We love our date nights!  We usually go out for dinner.  Our favorite spots are Casa San Carlos, Tightlines, Taste of Napoli, Floyds and Off the Hook in Morehead.  We love to go to Beaufort and eat at Mexcalito, then get some ice cream next door and walk around and look at the boats.  Some nights we just stay in and have drinks on our screened-in porch or watch a movie.
We are relatively new here but the best places to go where we feel like locals would be at festivals like Bites and Blues in Morehead City, or following the daily Marlin stats during the Big Rock Tournament, or even having fun painting with coworkers at Wine and Design in Morehead. We really love Harkers Island as well. Jill is a teacher there and it is a pretty special place.  From there, you can grab a ferry ride to Ocracoke or to visit the lighthouse.
After being newcomers ourselves just a couple years ago, our best advice to other newcomers would be to definitely start by getting out and meeting your neighbors. We have found good friends in our sweet neighborhood. If you have kids, get them involved in sports and go to the events or even just drop offs and pickups. It is a great way to meet other families with similar interests. Also-be open to all the new experiences! Go out to the local restaurants, shops, and check online or the paper for upcoming events. You can always find a friendly face nearby and if you give it a chance, some time, and some effort, you may find some lifelong friends.
On a rainy day you can head to MacDaddy's in Cape Carteret, it has everything from bowling to eating to arcades, even go-karts.  Our family loves to bowl.  We also love the movie theater over by the beach on Atlantic Beach. Morehead also has Axe-Throwing and Escape Rooms. We also just love a great shopping day with Starbucks, TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby!
There are plenty of places to go for a fun day trip. Favorites would be to Ocracoke, Cape Lookout, Shackleford Banks, and the Aquarium. We haven't seen the wild horses at Shackleford yet, but it is on our list!
The best way to learn about the history of this area is to talk to most of the people who live here!  Many have been here all their lives and have amazing stories to share. Morehead has a History Museum and Fort Macon has loads of history to see as well. Harkers Island has a History Museum and a yearly Duck Decoy Festival. Jill works at the elementary school where the Festival is held. It is an amazing sight to behold!
One tip or trick we would recommend to a new resident would be to prepare for hurricanes! HA! We have moved many times and lived in many places in our lives and never have lived with Hurricane Season before. Hurricane Season is for REAL! The year we got here, Florence came barreling through! We learned a lot in a short amount of time about how to prep, when to leave, and who usually toughs it out. We feel much more prepared and less intimidated by it all now.

We are so happy to call the beautiful Crystal Coast home, and we know without a doubt, you will be too!
