Places To Wine Down

Cante Ao Vinho Winery
5250 Front St., Rocklin, CA 95677

@Canteaovinhowinery

This is truly one of our favorite wineries and holds a special place in our hearts. Cante Ao Vinho, which in Portuguese means “sing to the wine,” is owned and operated by the Farinha family. Frank and Tom truly run a family business, where every customer that enters the Historic Barudoni Building’s doors is treated like family. With over 20 different wine varieties and vintages, don’t think for a second they’re a jack of all trades, master of none. Cante Ao Vinho produces uniquely exceptional old-world style wine, for a wide range of wine palates. Whether you are looking for something full-bodied with a smooth finish or something a little more light and refreshing, this award-winning winemaker has something for you. Our favorites are Nebbiolo and Summer’s Last Kiss.

Wise Villa Winery

@Wisevillawinery

Want those Napa vibes without the price tag? Wise Villa Winery is your one-stop shop to give you delicious cuisine, fine wine, and an exquisite view of its vineyard. With the owner having an extensive academic background in biological science, he was able to craft wine in a way that blends extensive scientific study and the traditional methods of European winemaking. In return, you get a wide variety of specially curated wines that’ll match any mood. Start with a wine tasting that includes five wines. That is what we usually do. You’ll enjoy a room that feels like an underground wine cellar with a contemporary twist. Wise Villa offers many events such as wine and food pairings or my personal favorite, the blending party where you get to create your own unique varietal. Your mini getaway is only a few minutes away; don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic that takes place here!

Dono Dal Cielo Winery
100 Wise Road, Newcastle, CA 95648

@donodalcielowines

At the edge of Lincoln, as you enter Newcastle, you’ll discover Dono dal Cielo Vineyards – a true gem of the Placer County wine trail. Dono Dal Cielo is Italian for “Gift from Heaven.” Mim, the owner of Dono, welcomes every guest with open arms and wonderful conversation. Plan to picnic or purchase food from their revolving selection of amazing food trucks. Think to yourself, “Do I want to listen to a live band? Have a quiet place to relax or chat? Or do I want to spend time outside on the grass watching the kids play?” Dono dal Cielo’s wine is sure to please all palettes with a variety that range from slightly sweet to full-bodied. We reserve a place in our heart for Dono since it is where our children, Teddy and Evie, are welcomed as family, are free to roam and likely to make long-lasting memories. Pro tip: Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, sit out and enjoy the beautiful glow of a California sunset with a glass of Ta Rose or Petite Sirah.

Rancho Roble Vineyards
340 Fleming Road, Lincoln, CA 95648

@ranchoroble

Rancho Roble Vineyard is a breathtaking vineyard located in Lincoln. This family-owned winery is located just northeast of old highway 65, right outside of Downtown Lincoln. Owners Pete and Kari Hazen strive for both local and sustainable farmed grapes with beautiful estate vines at the winery. They also frequently host weekend events featuring live music and local food trucks. When friends and family visit from out of town, Rancho Roble is one of the primary wineries we take them to along the Placer Wine Trail. From the rustic courtyard to the absolutely gorgeous plaza and pond this place has an atmosphere both distinctive and grand that is matched by their elegant wine varietals. Our favorite Rancho Roble wine is their Barbera. This winery is kid-friendly with an outdoor play area and large open space, perfect for dogs! We highly recommend a visit to catch what is a truly magical sunset.

Ciotti Cellars
3285 Crosby Way, Lincoln, CA 95648
916-534-8780
@ciotticellars

With a family history of Italian culture and a heritage of handcrafted winemaking, Ciotti makes wine that you always want more of. So if you are going in for a tasting know that you will probably have a glass or two. We always come back home with a few bottles, because “when in Lincoln,” right?
Ciotti’s outdoor area is awesome, it is both kid- and pet-friendly with great outdoor seating and wine barrels on display. Keeping with Italian traditions, they have a large music stage and food area, because the Ciotti family likes live music and food! Their grapes are completely small batch, handpicked, and every single grape is grown in Placer County — so they truly are Placer Grown. We like a medium-bodied, smooth finish, and Ciotti’s Barbera Riserva or Old Vine Zinfandel delivers!

Dora Dain Farms and Wines
2560 Crosby Herold Road, Lincoln, CA 95648
916-628-0999
@doradainwines

Dora Dain is a small family farm and winery. They’re open nearly every Saturday and Sunday, except during extreme weather conditions. We recommend calling in advance; Justin and the family enjoy giving uniquely awesome attention to anyone willing to come and enjoy their delicious wine.

Dora Dain is on a beautiful property just at the base of the Sierra Foothills. While being in the Vino Veranda, their open-air tasting structure, you are surrounded by vast quantities of large wild oak trees. You’ll also see their family-owned pumpkin patch and pond. Winemaking is a passion at Dora Dain, and that is well represented from their excellent varieties. Dora Dain’s wines have a range and are well made. Looking for something refreshing on a hot summer day? Sunset Rose and their Chardonnay will hit the spot. Want some a little more full-bodied and bold? Try the Syrah or Tempranillo!
